Bring Your House Back To Life

BY SANDI SHOWALTER

With one phone call to D&D Painting and Restoration, you brought your house back from boring to beautiful. Now you get to fall in love with your home all-over again, just like you did the first time you saw it. D&D brightened and refreshed your Lakewood Ranch house color palate on time, on budget and with stunning results.

John and Joel Zalud, brothers and owners of D&D Painting and Restoration, pride themselves on the quality of their work, which is evident by the many referrals they get from satisfied customers. They started the business in May 1999, as Joel said, "from absolutely nothing, other than a pick-up truck and a little bit of money," and grew it into one of the most well-respected painting and restoration companies in Sarasota.

A Family Affair

The brothers were very familiar with the painting and construction business, thanks to their father. He owned a construction and concrete business in Chicago, and John started working for him when he was 17. With a thirteen-year age difference between the brothers, Joel points out that when his oldest brother started working for their dad, "John was out in the real world and I was still playing with Legos."

The brothers did not set out to start their own company. John went on to work for the Chicago police department, while Joel moved to Florida at age 19 and became a lifeguard. After John was hurt on the job, he retired and followed his little brother to the Sunshine State to escape the brutal winters and enjoy their mutual love of fishing.

John and Joel's fishing hobby led them to finding a friend in St. Petersburg who had a painting business. When they decided to start their own company, their friend gave them advice and used them as subcontractors. Over the years, D&D has grown from a two-man operation, to a company that employs a large team of professional, talented painters.

So, why D&D and not J&J? When John and Joel decided to start their company, they got so involved in the many details of getting it off the ground they forgot to pick out a name. When John's wife, Connie, heard them talking about their lapse in memory, she suggested Dumb & Dumber. Always up for a good joke, and with the ability to laugh at themselves, D&D Painting and Restoration was born.

Highly Recommended

Like so many others, Jay and Lani Ragan found D&D through word-of-mouth. The Ragan's exterior of their large two-story home in the Country Club neighborhood needed updating and a friend referred them to John and Joel.
"We were so thrilled with everything about their service, from the first phone call to the final touch-ups," Lani said.

She felt their honesty with the estimate, and how they took the time to explain what products would be best, set them apart from other painting companies. Jay and Lani are getting ready to repaint the interior and Lani said because of their faith and trust in D&D, "we won't even be getting other estimates."

From Business to Home

Mike Ferro, owner of Ferro Enterprises, first used D&D a few years ago for a five-story commercial property in Ellenton, after a friend recommended them. Due to the excellent job and professional manner of the company, when it came time to paint his own Polo Club home, the only call he made was to D&D.

"I liked their management staff and their owners. Their pricing was competitive, and after I gave them the opportunity up in Ellenton, I didn't even get another bid for my home project. I just knew I wanted to hire them, so I just called and they came out and did it."

He also plans to use them on future commercial properties because he knows that he never has to worry about getting fair pricing and a quality job.

Honest and Reliable

Greg and Joan Fahey got several estimates when the exterior of their Venice home needed repainting four years ago. They had heard that D&D was a well-respected company and were impressed when they came out to do the estimate, so the Faheys decided to go with them. When they sold that home and bought a new house that needed the interior done, they again turned to D&D.

"Since we had already worked with them—and knew they were very reliable and very honest—we went with them immediately. The job turned out to be beautiful," Greg said.

Joan added that one of the things she likes best about D&D is that they back up their product. They offer a satisfaction guarantee to resolve any issues that might happen in the first year.

No Need for a Second Opinion

Time and time again, satisfied D&D customers return to them with their painting needs and recommend them to friends and family. The gorgeous results and quality service are matched by their fair and honest pricing. The next time you need your house painted, give D&D a call.
